WHAT WE DO
DBS Manufacturing is a successful, privately held business that designs, manufactures, and provides application engineering for products sold to original equipment manufacturers, end users, and municipal and industrial facilities around the world. We offer a full line of OEM clarifier and thickener drive units; direct "bolt-in" retrofit drive units; low-speed mechanical aerators; industrial mixers; and rotary distributor center mechanisms. Made in the USA, our durable products minimize energy consumption and reduce maintenance requirements to provide top performance and years of use. Our state-of-the-art headquarters in Atlanta is home to our business operations, engineering staff, production area and shipping department and is conveniently located minutes from the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
WHO WE ARE
At the helm of DBS Manufacturing are Founder and Director Nils Young and President Mimi Malizia Young. Nils spearheads Research and Development and oversees Sales. Mimi draws on family experience in large-scale manufacturing and a professional marketing background to manage Human Resources, Marketing and Strategic Planning. Nils and Mimi believe that building strong, lasting customer relationships has been key to their success and longevity as a private company and sets them apart from competitors.
We are proud of our team of experienced mechanical engineers, many of whom have been with DBS for decades. Our engineers have deep experience in developing customized, technically advanced solutions for a wide variety of applications in plants around the world. We encourage you to contact our Atlanta office to speak with one of our engineers: they are eager to learn about your unique challenges and provide an effective and economical solution. We have fluent speakers in Spanish and Chinese. Our team of sales representatives serve end user, industrial and municipal markets around the world.
OUR HISTORY
Nils started his professional engineering career as a liaison engineer for Delta Airlines, spending 10 years with the company. As a side project that evolved out of his passion for motor sports, Nils launched Young Engineering to design and build Formula Ford racing cars. His first design, a prototype car, incorporated a number of innovative features such as adjustable suspension and advanced aerodynamics. Construction of the car was well underway when the 1974 worldwide energy crisis led to the banning recreational use of gasoline and effectively halted auto racing.
To keep Young Engineering afloat – and pay his shop rent – Nils sought other business opportunities. He took on a variety of “one-off” engineering projects, such as fabricating aluminum hydrogen vent lines for testing the Saturn V rocket engines, screen filters for latex paint production, a truck unloader for bark chips, and others. One of these projects was the opportunity to design a gearbox for a large sewage treatment plant. Having no previous experience with these type of gearboxes, Nils quickly arrived at a solution that was economically fabricated and easily installed.
The customer was so pleased with the performance of the first drive units that they promptly ordered a second batch. With that order in hand, Nils officially launched DBS Manufacturing to specialize in designing and manufacturing technically advanced and highly reliable drive units for the OEM market as well as retrofit drives for municipal and industrial end users. Nils has led the DBS team of engineers in the design and development of innovative new additions to the line of DBS products. Our retrofits page offers examples of customized solutions Nils and the team have developed for customers around the world. Nils served for six years as a member of the advisory board for the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech.
