D120 Lift

DBS MEETS THE CHALLENGE OF EXTENDING ITS LARGE INDUSTRIAL DRIVE

Earlier this year, DBS shipped a large pier mounted drive unit to a copper mining company. This is the biggest pier-mount drive unit with a lift that DBS company has ever built in its 50-year history. The machine, a D120-HH6-L, measures 139" x 139" x 140" tall and weighs over 60 tons. It has continuous and maximum torque ratings of 5.4 million ft. lbs (7.32 million N.m) and 10.8 million ft.lbs (14.64 million N.m), respectively. The model also features a 500-ton lift.

The order came from an existing customer  who has used our 104" and 80" versions of this type of drive units before and was impressed with the design, product quality, and our customer service. After comparing proposals from our competitors, they decided to place an order with DBS again, this time for a 120" version with 6 pinions.

Due to the unit's size and weight, we faced some unique design challenges, ranging from weight handling to component availability. We drew on our vast experience, familiarity with many quality vendors, and advanced engineering tools to develop solutions to meet every challenge. We upgraded two cranes by doubling their capacities, built a ramp to extend the shop floor surface to the outside of the building for crane access and developed three hydraulic manifolds for high flow and hydraulic component integration.

This machine shares many product features common to all DBS machines and that almost all our mining and other industrial customers require. These features include: 2.7 service factor on the drive train component, 4-point contact forged steel gear-bearing, high-efficiency gear train design and low maintenance requirement.
