DBS Manufacturing Meets Build America, Buy America Act Requirements

By Frances Archer

As we approach the Fourth of July — and not just any Fourth of July, but the 250th anniversary of the United States of America — it's a fitting moment to reflect on what it means to build American infrastructure with American materials. For municipalities and contractors navigating federal funding requirements, that reflection has a very practical dimension: the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act.

Here's what you need to know.

What is the Build America, Buy America Act?

The BABA Act became law in 2021. It established a domestic content procurement preference and covers nearly all public works projects. Critically, federal funding is not awarded to projects that fail to comply with its requirements.

How do BABA requirements relate to products built by DBS Manufacturing?

For equipment manufacturers like DBS, compliance falls into two key categories: iron and/or steel products, and manufactured products more broadly. For manufactured products, the requirement is that the cost of U.S.-origin components must exceed 55% of the total product cost.

Does DBS Manufacturing meet these requirements?

Yes, across the board. All DBS products meet BABA requirements in both the iron/steel and manufactured products categories. All steel used by DBS is domestic, and every DBS product is manufactured at our factory in Atlanta, GA. The U.S.-origin component cost of our products exceeds the 55% threshold.

Can DBS provide documentation of BABA compliance?

Absolutely. DBS can provide compliance certification letters to clients who need to demonstrate BABA compliance for their projects.
